Sage Advocacy's Executive Director, Sarah Lennon, joined the Michael Reade Show on LMFM Radio to discuss a new research project that could help to improve the lives of thousands of people throughout Ireland who need long term support services.

Sage Advocacy's Establishing an Observatory on Human Rights in Long-Term Care project will examine and explore what the key human rights issues are for people who receive long-term care and support services.

The Project will also examine how such an Observatory can contribute to highlighting and addressing human rights abuses where these occur.

The project, funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, aims to give people who experience long-term care and support services, their families and supporters an opportunity to have their voices heard and to make an important contribution to new, future models of care.

Ms Lennon said that Sage Advocacy wants to hear people who are receiving long term care and support currently, who may have returned to their own home from a nursing home and are receiving care and support services or also from family members who have first-hand experience of the current care and support system to get in touch with them.

Anyone can get involved in the Observatory on Human Rights in Long-Term Care project by directly contacting the project co-ordinator, Niamh Delany by email: niamh.delany@sageadvocacy.ie or by calling 087 9609419.
