LISTEN BACK: SAGE ADVOCACY URGES NURSING HOME PROVIDERS TO ADHERE TO HPSC GUIDELINES ON VISITING September 1, 2021

Listen back here to Sage Advocacy's Executive Director, Sarah Lennon, on RTE Radio 1's Drivetime together with Christine Loscher, Professor of Immunology, and Associate Dean for Research at DCU as they discuss breakthrough Covid-19 cases in nursing homes and the proposed booster vaccine programme.

Ms Lennon said nursing home residents and their families have told Sage Advocacy that they are concerned both about the increase in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in nursing home and also the trend among some nursing home providers to re-instate visitor restrictions.

Ms Lennon said over the course of the last 15 months elongated lockdown measures had been very harmful to older people in terms of their mental health and wellbeing and Sage Advocacy is urging nursing home providers to adhere to the HPSC guidelines.

Ms Lennon said it is important that all infection prevention control measures are put in place in nursing homes to prevent serious illness but it is also important to acknowledge that imposing blanket bans on visitation can also cause harm of another kind to nursing home residents.
