FUTURE HOUSING SCHEMES MUST BE BUILT AROUND CHOICE AND HAVE SAFEGUARDS IN PLACE FOR OLDER PEOPLE June 25, 2021

Listen back here:

Sage Advocacy's Executive Director, Sarah Lennon, joined a discussion on Clare FM to highlight why it is important that older people are given the choice to decide where they want to live.

Ms Lennon said recent reports that the Government may propose a new scheme that could offer older people living in large homes incentives to downsize to a smaller home, must have safeguards built into it and must fundamentally be about choice for the older person.

Ms Lennon, who was also joined on Clare FM's Morning Focus show by Kay Murphy from Active Retirement Ireland, said Sage Advocacy, through its advocacy work, is very aware of situations where older people have been coerced into leaving their family homes.

Sage Advocacy believes it is now urgent that older people are given all the supports they need to ensure that they can continue to live in their own communities where they feel at home.
