Sage Advocacy's Executive Director, Sarah Lennon, joined Ciara Kelly on Newstalk Breakfast to discuss possible changes to the Fair Deal scheme in the Government’s Housing For All plan.

Reports suggest amendments could be made to the Nursing Homes Support Scheme bill to exempt rental income from a family home from contributions to the scheme.

Ms Lennon said Sage Advocacy has always maintained that the Fair Deal is far from fair and progressive changes to the scheme would be welcomed.

But she also warned that stringent safeguards would be needed to ensure that a situation would not arise that older people could be coerced or forced out of their family homes.

Ms Lennon said it is vital that the rights and choice of the older person is central to any decisions about their family home.
