LISTEN BACK: CONTINUED CLOSURE OF ADULT DAY CENTRES IS HAVING A DETRIMENTAL IMPACT ON LIVES IN KERRY August 13, 2021

Michael Cahillane, Sage Advocacy's Regional Coordinator, Kerry & Cork West, joined Kerry Today with Jerry O'Sullivan, to discuss about why some older people and their families in County Kerry feel let down and frustrated by the Government’s failure to fully re-open some adult day centres.

Mr Cahillane told the Kerry Today show that some adult day centres remain closed while others are operating at such a reduced capacity that only a handful of people are currently able to use the services each day.

Mr Cahillane said: “I know from my work how vitally important day centres are to both older people and their families – many centres in this area provide crucial social and health-related services which enable older people to remain living in their own communities.

“Adult day centres are also hugely important for some people who are affected by isolation and loneliness and the opportunity to be able to socialise with other people – to just have someone to talk to and share your thoughts with is absolutely necessary for people’s mental health and well being."
